Posture, more than just standing up straight...

Posture, more than just standing up straight...

Posture is the position in which someone holds their body when standing or sitting.

To be able to achieve good posture it requires training your body to stand, walk, sit and lie in positions where supporting muscles and ligaments have the least strain placed upon them during movement or weight-bearing activities.

It is important to achieve good posture because:

  • It aligns bones and joints so that muscles are being used properly.
  • It helps decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces that could result in arthritis.
  • It reduces stress on the ligaments which are holding the joints of the spine together.
  • It stops the spine from becoming fixed in the wrong /abnormal positions.
  • It allows the body to use less energy - Preventing fatigue because muscles are being used more efficiently.
  • Prevents backache and muscular pain - Preventing strain or overuse problems.
  • Contributes to a good appearance... and this is for me a key point that is often missed. Holding yourself upright, in good posture, without slouching, with your head held high, exudes confidence, even if your as scared as hell inside and shaking like a jelly!!! People initially only see what’s right in front of them.

Remember to Strut your Stuff...

There is just something about confident people that puts your mind at ease and makes it easier to engage with them. So as well as all the health benefits, good posture could help you get that job, close that deal, attract a partner or just simply get through a difficult day!
